Published for the price of a single stamp!

In a nutshell:

Writing 'Figment' has been one of the most enjoyable and frustrating things I have ever accomplished. Writing the book was the easy part (even though it took years); afterwards I set it aside for a few weeks, then went back and looked. There were so many parts that were missing or deficient that I almost quit and burned it.

The cover I first picked was lack-luster and left plenty to be desired. The font selection was plain and screamed mediocrity. Everything seemed to point to an amateur writer's first attempt.

As I wallowed in self-doubt, I was helped by a professional (who wants to remain anonymous) in choosing the typeface for the book. The 'new and improved version' looked great, but I still found the rest of it wanting.

After submitting the book to 'Flipped Peaches' for editing, they found a few grammatical errors and phrases that needed a bit of polishing. They sent back a gleaming example of what a book should look and read like.

Having the words polished and honed, I felt very comfortable with the inside. Now I had to tackle the task of making it presentable from the outside. I happened to see the cover art that graces the cover now while surfing the net. My first thought was... perfection. Joe Koberstein's work was the final crowning piece that made the entire project promising and worthy of release.

I could not list everyone individually here, because there are too many to name. The point of all this is... no artist should have to go through this, and they should not have to put a second, or third mortgage on the homestead to complete their own works.

I can honestly say that the cost for this entire project has been one (1) stamp, and I kept the receipt to show it. This one stamp was use to send out a legal agreement.

How did I get everyone to agree to work for free? The answer - I didn't. I have worked out deals with everyone involved - ranging from part of the proceeds generated from sales, promotion on the main site, and even a few return favors when contributors start their own work.

The whole idea behind this is to support artists that are working on their own projects. If you know of anyone in any field that may help further the goals of artists, please send them an ecard or email and tell them to join. I am offering the social side of this site to help artists with promotions and connections to other artists.

I am releasing this site prior to release of the book because if it helps:

  • One author find an editor or cover artist
  • One photographer find a subject or model
  • One graphic artist find the perfect brush or layout
  • One promoter find the designer they've needed
  • One poet find their muse
  • One painter find a gallery
  • One artist find another artist for inspiration

Then I can sleep a little easier at night knowing that one artist did not have to struggle needlessly and they can get on to bigger and brighter things, like creating art.

That is how this site came to be, and that is why you are here.

Thank you for joining,

David
